Scaling Real Estate Receivables With Bank Shot
Overview

The Pain points
Clients faced major friction in payment collection:
Most payments were still handled via check or manual wire instructions.
Each brokerage had its own internal approval process.
Clients wanted branded, trusted payment flows on their websites, not external links.
User Pain Points (from initial research interviews) and in APP survey I built with PostHog
“We can deposit checks with Bank Shot, but can’t receive funds easily.”
“Every payment flow is different for each client and property type.”
“Receiving payments is very challenging with all the fraud opportunities out there.”

The opportunity:
Building a client portal that is expected to be used by 50% of our client companies, and would drive revenue and diversify payment opportunities in the real estate world.
Drawing board:
MVP: Build one Client portal with five pilot companies and user-test it.
In the MVP phase, we opted to offer a company code so our clients could test it out before building the option to customize it (white-labeling). This helped us avoid overworking our DEV efforts and pinning down the pain points and specific requirements that would need to be configurable.
Findings:
“We love the portal but would love to limit the size of the deposit per ACH because of the laws in Texas.”
“Can we make the agent field not required?”
“Can we add a field for Closing Dates?”
“We need to be able to customize Terms and Agreements”
“The email confirmation for our client has to have our branding on it”
“Can we customize the payment methods that can be
accepted per payment type?”
“Can I add my own wire transfer instructions?”
How it scaled:
Now that the proof of concept was solidified, I helped the dev team scope out the future iterations, prioritizing the nice-to-haves from the must-haves and start the heavy-lifting development phase.
Future:
Background color choices by HEX#
Customizable payment types
Payment Requests
Scheduled payments
Phone number confirmation
Now:
Embeddable code available in settings
Install Documentation
Logo white-labeling for portal and Email
Configurable required fields
Deposit Amount controls
Phase 2 Design:
In phase two I focused on adding functionality that supported Product-Led-Growth strategies, like self set up and management of the client portals, which enabled the users to customize the requirements based on priority.
